Welp, managed to piss off a few of you Opponauts last night. It’s ok, I still love all of you even when you think I am being an asshole.

I found a grassy strip by the hotel with a path where I can let Toby off the leash so he can run a little. It ends at a barren area under an offer pass that is isolated and off the street. I think bad things happen there. I like Stockton, but it is an economically troubled town, and not very safe.

EDIT: just saw the whole thing...eh. Emotional support is something thats needed time to time. I get the people being pissed. but that was out of proportion. Its a dog FFS. and a seemlingly mild mannered one at that.

Eh, honestly, as a friend, passing off your dog as a service animal has actually become a huge issue recently, with a lot of businesses refusing entry to real service dogs over it. Its easy enough to get a vague ass emotional support animal certification, which, if you’re gonna pretend, you might as well take that route. I’m sure Toby is well behaved enough that it isn’t an issue and you’re not like these people who bring a wild misbehaving dog somewhere, but please man, reconsider just straight up lying about it. Even if you don’t, at least refer to him as an emotional support animal. A service dog is highly trained to a very specific degree.

Not to mention the fact that many states are now introducing laws regarding this because it has become such a huge issue. In California, for example, I read that it carries a $1000 fine and up to 6 months in jail.

I’m not gonna call you names or leave any snarky comments, but I will just ask you to reconsider. As a friend.

A good friend of mine passes out unexpectedly due to narcolepsy. She has a very legitimate need for her service dog, and has had situations where businesses are leary about letting the dog inside due to issues caused by fake service dogs. Like you said, it’s become a huge issue recently, and is causing problems for people who genuinely need and rely on their service dogs.

I’m struggling to comprehend how a person could be so blind to how wrong faking something like this is...

When did this happen? I always tell people on here to hire a traffic attourney when they get in trouble, or a lawyer when they get in REAL trouble. You'd be dense to not exercise your rights.

People were getting mad at you for disguising Toby as a service animal? Jeeeesssuuussss. In college my wife (gf then) had her uncle write a note to her apartment complex for us saying the cats we rescued were service animals. People are too goddamn uptight.

Happened Wednesday morning and posted about it Thursday.

I was going over the posted limit, but not the speed the officer said I was. And I found a few vehicle code sections that basically say if certain criteria are met (I think they are) then the officer needs to provide current engineering studies of the road in order to establish I was going an unsafe speed.

Basically I’m using the legal system and codes as intended: putting the burden of proof on the prosecution. People seem to forget you are innocent until proven guilty.

But apparently I'm an asshole for not wanting to pay a fine for something I didn't commit.

I know. And I try to keep my mouth shut. It doesn’t add anything to our discourse here if I point all the mistakes someone made to get to the point where they are. I make mistakes all the time. We should learn from them and move on.

And I always forget that since this is the internet everyone else is perfect.
